What is Avalon?

The Game

Taking inspiration from MMORPG's such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV, Avalon seeks to replicate the sense of immersion, progression and accomplishment of its predecessors. Going above and beyond the traditional MMORPG format, Avalon plans to allow players to actively build within the game world that the story and lore takes place in, only protecting critical locations.

The Story

When an ancient civilization tampered with that which lay beyond their comprehension, the multiverse was brought to its knees by a creature known as The Nightmare. Now Avalon remains as the last bastion against this monstrosity, with the clock ticking down. How many times must history be turned back to prevent Avalon's seemingly inevitable fate brought about by its past sins?

Dungeons

Enter dangerous dungeons crawling with monsters and filled with valuable loot, or test your coordination in a raid with a party of friends, without interference from other players. Pick from six classes with more to come and choose your combat style as you face these challenges.

Economy

Become a part of Avalon's in depth economy, fueled by provincial currency values. Level up your crafting classes to create valuable items and sell them on the provincial markets, or level up your gathering classes to find the rarest materials to help make those crafts in the highest of quality.

Server *might* experience some issues shortly. Adding a captcha bot so people need to get the adventurer role to speak in the discord server. You'll be able to get the role by doing !verify in the Discord chat If you already have the adventurer role you don't have to worry about anything.

Hey I'm sure you all have noticed the lack of weekly updates for the last while. I wanted to issue an apology and an explanation for the radio silence. Unfortunately, as my cycle tends to go, I am suffering from a little burn-out on Avalon III. This kicked in a couple weeks ago, and while normally I would bounce back by now, it has been compounded by the fact I am working towards progressing my career and moving up at my job to become a full-time web developer. Not a whole lot to say other than that, but thank you all for being patient and I hope you'll continue to do so as I sort things out on my end. I haven't forgotten about you guys or Avalon as a whole. 🙂 Cheers! ~ Marc

HOWDY FOLKS. TIME FOR ANOTHER ~~LATE~~ WEEKLY UPDATE. This week was a big building week, and not as much was done on the backend development side, so this update will look a little small. Nevertheless, here we go! Last week we: - Made significant progress on The Boilery - - Nearly completed the main entrance and first section of the dungeons building - - Mapped and layed out the rest of the dungeon following the HUGE HECKING BRIDGE - Started the building of Toth Point, a significant location in the tutorial world of Rhadelia - Planned out a lot of monsters for the Faria region and began planning out monsters for the Eladania region - Started quest dialogue scripting for the Eladania regional questline - NEARLY NEARLY finished a plugin for allowing staff to more easily participate in the server like regular players - Brought aboard a new builder - Brought aboard a new developer About the monthly update: WE'RE WORKING ON IT!! Last time we weren't particularly pleased with the monthly update, so we are working hard to make sure it's a little more presentable this time. We'll be discussing Avalon Forge (a new crafting plugin on its way to Avalon) and getting an exclusive sneak peek at some of the lore and locations for Avalon III! For now though, everyone will just have to be patient... thank you everyone!

WHOOPS HELLO it's time for the weekly update!! ~~It was time yesterday~~ Busy busy busy... it's been VERY busy for the Avalon III dev team both online and IRL, but we are still working hard to have new things to talk about each week. Let's take a look shall we? Last week we: - Tested and confirmed numerous plugins for 1.14.4 - Completed the MELTDOWN portion of Avalon Forge, a new way of acquiring valuable materials - Began development of the SMELT portion of Avalon Forge, a completely custom smelting system to Avalon - Planned out basics for our second new dungeon for Avalon III: The Boilery - Began construction of The Boilery; tune in to Guardian's livestreams to see its development! - Began planning and mapping out region and zone-based monster levels - Finished a plugin for reducing the effectiveness of Elytra flight as a part of our ongoing efforts to prevent server crashes and balance movement mechanics - Rough animation for another scene finished We also have some special info we would like to reveal here, as these aren't large enough to spend time in the monthly updates discussing. - The Paradise Lost series will be restructured, and not be available upon release of Avalon III. The structure will now be: - - Paradise Lost: Part One - - Paradise Lost: Part Two - - Paradise Lost: Part Three - - Paradise Lost: Salren - - *Paradise Lost: Salren (Hard)* [OPTIONAL] - LEVEL CAPS FOR AVALON III - - Starting level range: Lv. 1-30 - - Defeat the dragon: Lv. 30-50 - - Defeat Salren: Lv. 50-70

It's a day late but HERE IS THE WEEKLY UPDATE LOTS of organization again in the background. We are starting to have regular meetings and have begun setting deadlines to ensure progress is being made consistently. Last week, we: - Started detailed planning of another dungeon - Finalized tasks for the tutorial dungeon's final boss - Finished a set for an animation - Finished a scene for an animation - Finalized a total of *15 custom materials* for Avalon III's initial release - Finalized a total of *8 item tiers* and their levels - Planned out the level-cap updates, releasing higher level caps as content gets added - Fully planned out a new plugin for item and loot management: *Avalon Forge* - Created "Item Quality" functionality for Avalon Forge - Created "Item Tier" functionality for Avalon Forge - Made arrangements to bring aboard several new team members, including builders and a texture artist - Performed testing on 1.14 for server optimization and stability - Created a system for updating equipment *after* it is released and in players hands To explain the last point a bit, basically this means that if we deem an item too powerful or too weak in the future after it has been released or is being used by players, when this system is complete it will allow us to automatically replace the old item with the updated/new version of it. YEEHAW IT'S UPDATE TIME Let's talk about what happened last week! Last week, we: - Finalized the item format we will be using for custom items in the future - Made significant adjustments to the way buffs work in AvN Combat (not yet in the beta) - - Buffs will now increase your modifier by a percent instead of just adding the buffs percent on top of your current modifier. - - This will mean at lower levels, buffs will be less powerful, but at higher levels buffs will be significantly more effective. - - For example, if your strength equates to +300% damage, and you have a buff that increases your damage by 100%, instead of it becoming +400%, it would become +600%. That's a lotta damage! - Implemented functionality for armor increasing stats when equipped (!!!) (not yet in the beta) - Finished sculpting the tutorial zone - Finished the writing of the tutorial zone monsters and locations - Nearly finished manual landscaping and smoothing of tutorial zone - Began building the hub/lobby town - Began sculpting the rolling hills of the Altaath Highlands (bottom picture) - Streamlined the process of implementing new materials for developers - Began conceptualizing the details of the forging system (previous referred to as "meltdown" system.) - Updated the private development build server to 1.14.4 (FINALLY) - Made significant progress on the composition of an Avalon Medley - A whole lot of back-end organization and coordination Phew. Quite a bit this time around, and a whole lot more to come after this week. We are going full steam ahead now and I don't intend on letting things slow down! We want to get this project into everyone's hands as quickly as possible. Cheers everyone!
